土曜日から、姉妹都市提携30周年記念式典に出席するため姉妹都市であるニュージーランドのハット市に来ています。 1995年に始まった両市の交流は、30年もの間、文化・教育などさまざまな分野での絆を育んできました。 一方で、式典は私が就任する前から出席が決まっていましたが、近年、政治家の海外出張には厳しい目が向けられており、正直なところ今回ハット市を訪れることはとても悩みました。 しかし、実際に現地でハット市の皆さんと直接交流し、今回の訪問の意義の大きさを改めて実感しました。箕面市ハット市友好クラブ、箕面市国際交流協会、箕面市美術協会、歴代市長・議員の皆さん、そしてハット市でもハット箕面友好ハウストラストメンバーなど、両市民の皆さんの30年にわたる交流の積み重ねのおかげで今の強い友好関係が構築されており、今後も続いていくようにすることが私たちの責務だと再認識しました。 式典では、キャンベル・バリー市長や議員の皆さん、歴代市長や多くの関係者の皆さんとお会いし、両市の絆の深さを実感しました。これまでの交流の歴史を振り返りながら、未来に向けてさらに関係を発展させていくことを誓い合いました。 滞在中は、先進的なハット市のICTの取り組みやプール・公園・スケボーパークの視察、在ニュージーランド日本大使館大使公邸で夕食会に出席、現地の学校を訪問するなど箕面市と関わりのある施設や人々と交流しました。特に、過去に箕面を訪れたことのある方々との再会はとても感動的でした。今回の訪問を通じて得た経験を、箕面市のまちづくりにも活かしていきます。 また、ハット市長はじめ議員の皆さんに、私からハット市にお願いしたいことをプレゼンさせていただき、本市の教育を世界一にするためのwin-winとなるさまざまな提案をしました。今後、英語教育のさらなる拡充や国際交流の取り組みをもう一段階進めてまいります。 これからも、箕面市とハット市の関係をさらに深め、次の世代へと受け継いでいくべく、両市の市民の皆さんがより身近に感じられるような交流の機会を増やし、互いの文化や価値観を尊重し合いながら、新たな可能性を広げていきたいと思います。 順次、現地の活動についてレポートいたします。
