I ask the government, why can’t we do this?

Today in #Mogadishu, the Benadir Regional Administration Durable Solutions Technical Working Group (DSTWG) convened to advance strategies for displaced communities.

Co-chaired by BRA DSU and IOM, and supported by @EU_in_Somalia & @UKinSomalia, the DSTWG strengthens coordination, knowledge-sharing, and advocacy for durable solutions — from housing and livelihoods to voluntary return, local integration, and resettlement.

This week, Somali Joint Fund, @SwissEmbassyKE, @NorwayinSomalia and @NLinSomalia reps assessed the Saameynta Joint Programme's durable solutions efforts in Baidoa: community-led housing pilots; and Enterprise Development Fund support for agribusinesses; and job creation efforts.

⚡️UPDATE: Speaking at the launch of the DARIS WACAN Project held in #Somalia capital #Mogadishu, @IOM_EHSA Regional Director @CelestinFranz praised the initiative as a transformative step for climate resilience and water management in cross-border areas of Somalia and Kenya.

Great to take part in the launch of the DARIS WACAN project in Somalia. Over 160,000 people in border communities in 🇸🇴 + 🇰🇪 will have greater access to water, infrastructure, + support to build climate-resilient livelihoods as a result. Thank you to the EU for this support.

The Durable Solutions Progress Survey (#DSP) was presented by the @iom_somalia DTM team. It evolved from the Danwadaag programme monitoring tool, which measured host/IDP inequalities, into a government-led national assessment. View the DSP products here: mop.gov.so/?s=DSP

📢 Danwadaag, @MoPIED_Somalia, and @ReDSS_HoA recently hosted a learning event to discuss the implementation of the National Durable Solutions Strategy (#NDSS) and National Solutions Pathways Action Plan.

The event was opened by @iom_somalia’s Chief of Mission and @MoPIED_Somalia's Director of Poverty Reduction & Durable Solutions, underscoring commitment to collaborating on transitioning 1 million displaced Somalis toward #durablesolutions.

In #Garowe, urban growth and displacement are intertwined. Mayor and PIU coordinator of Garowe highlighted the Hawlwadaag City Extension, which integrates IDPs into planned urban areas. Scaling such models could shape inclusive Somali cities.

Alhamdulilah. We are extreamly happy to have launched Somalia’s National Solutions Plan aimed at transforming the lives of 1 mi IDPs by removing them from their close to 40 years protracted displacement situation. I thank everyone who took part in its development.
