@kaefair There might be cultural influence, but they aren't in Appalachia. There's a big difference there. And Middletown has an industrial influence and history but most people there live a fundamentally suburban existence. It's a suburb. Not a wealthy or privileged one. But a suburb.

@kaefair Ok, but as someone who actually grew up in Appalachia, there are A LOT of places that are a part of the diaspora. Baltimore, Columbus, Dayton, Toledo, Detroit, Cincinnati, Akron, Harrisburg, Reading, Richmond, Buffalo, Rochester, Atlanta, Raleigh, Lexington, Nashville.

*taps the mic* Middletown is a 45 min drive from downtown Cincinnati and also a part of the Appalachian diaspora JD Vance is walking toe fungus but that doesn’t invalidate the important cultural influence of the diaspora in these towns

@Eric_Erins Milwaukee is nice (except for their sports teams) but Philly is only big because it's between NYC and Washington DC. Milwaukee is 2 hours in the wrong direction.

@Lily628 If you’re in the burbs, you probably have kids. That’s the context here. You are doing none of those things

Weekends don’t exist once you’re in the burbs because kids dominate. It’s just time. Days don’t matter. However, 35 year olds who still live in the city, getting hammered at bars are just as confusing. Not that it doesn’t sound like fun, but your friends aren’t at the bar with you, they’re in the burbs at soccer practice, with me. So who are you getting hammered with?

How do people in the suburbs genuinely look forward to Friday night on the couch, Saturday morning at Costco, and call that a weekend? Like you really moved out of the city just to LARP as your parents at 34?

@BruneElections Am I crazy or doesn't Ohio not have a lot of universities. It's not like here in North Carolina where we have an insane amount of them Seems like a non-issue

@BRuddTweets @JoshJunker2 I stand corrected....when I visited the Carew Tower(?) was the tallest. They said that tidbit on the tour. Sad to hear it has been surpassed

@rsomething Well, arbitrary is the wrong word. They are all based on the same, very exact criteria and they are created specifically for statistical comparison. It's not arbitrary at all. But it's not perfect, and your example is illustrative of its limitations.
