@DeltaClimbs Ty, more importantly, it would be great to talk to someone knowledgeable about possible insurgencies and counter-insurgencies of the nearish future for a sci-fi novel/novella I am working on.

@DeltaClimbs Don’t want anything, but if you know any writers in London/the UK who simultaneously enjoy both literary and science fiction and also something like combat sports, would be good to know there are others out there

@LandsharkRides It’s not hard to make yourself once you get the grains. My homemade version has two ingredients: raw goat milk and [removed] kefir grains. Doesn’t have to be raw, or goat, or full fat even, should be dairy though and not UHT

Dreamt that a Viking awoke in our age: He understood English from his time raiding, but didn’t understand why it was spoken with so many Frankish words so badly pronounced

The anti-alcohol, anti-pleasure, live-off-grid rhetoric is anti-Western culture actually. We shouldn’t aspire to live like the Amish. We should aspire to enjoy the splendour of our civilisation: beautiful architecture, candlelit dinners, intellectual conversation, cocktails with beautiful friends under chandeliers. We didn’t build all this just to retreat back into huts and eat ground meat off wooden chopping boards

@BSayder @asparagoid You don't have to do it all day. 3x15-20 minute sessions with a successful increase in control pause can carry you to 30s+, if you don't have other bottlenecks. From there, it's a matter of refinement and maybe brute force in key cp thresholds.

Anyone know what this Buddhist monk who learned Buteyko was specifically doing while "power walking with maximum air hunger"? Just holding breath for as many steps as possible and taking a break for a min or what? @asparagoid? @BreatheLesss? link to full post in comments

@asparagoid @BreatheLesss Very helpful, thank you. That’s why I liked the 10-15 seconds above cp holds from the monk, looked very sustainable, and thought maybe I could supercharge it with some of his power walking.

Sustainable is the key word Over-efforting leads to either stopping, or actively triggers fight/flight You want to lean slightly over your edge Buteyko himself had a better definition for training, which was to paraphrase: "reduction of breathing via relaxation" Western people forget the last 2 words but it's the key. You can find ways of training where the entire thing can be done via relaxation, or can be done with sustainable force of just leaning into air hunger slightly The irony is that this approach is more effective long term. People often fail to make much progress because they try too hard, imagining maximum force shifts adaptation the most. Likewise, feeling good and relaxed after sessions is a sign of success Focus on relaxation, extending slightly, what you can actually sustain throughout the day without force. You will go much further

@asparagoid @BreatheLesss Interesting, thank you. My issue is motivation atm. I get profound benefits from qigong: mostly zhan zhuang and small universe breathing, relatively gentle arts. I’d like to add some buteyko, but near suffocating myself all-day seems hyper intense.

Yes. I spoke to him at length. He was one of 20 people who got over 60+ CP I spoke to He told me that the majority of initial progress came from maximum pauses (not always effectual) and round the clock reduced breathing. Then later, many mini pauses (+5/10 above CP) followed by reduced breathing Approach to walking was mostly about sustainable air hunger during all activity Feel free to contact me if you need guidance

@DeltaClimbs perhaps at the level of the nation state, but if individuals believe in the MAD doctrine, won’t their beliefs bring it from meme to reality?
