Amit, I am a U.S rates broker at a major brokerage firm in NYC. The 20yr auction wasn't horrible at all. It only tailed 1bp at auction. Dealers bought 17% of the auction vs an average of 15%. The 1bp tail obviously forced a lot of selling in the bond market but the main reason we are seeing selling is because of the uncertainties building up this year. The reason we are getting a 5% handle is because of the credit rating being lowered as well as the combination of long-term inflation expectations, and tariff uncertainty. So, the follow through caused a chain reaction of panic sellers. This isn't due to lack f demand.
