Did Mythos Hack China?
My $100 bet on who REALLY stole 10 petabytes from China’s biggest supercomputer… and it’s NOT the NSA. 🧵
1/ Everyone’s losing their minds over the NSCC Tianjin breach. FlamingChina drops samples on Telegram Feb 6 — missile schematics, bomb designs, J-20 aerospace data, fusion sims, the works. 10+ PETABYTES. China stays completely silent. Classic.
But the original “NSA did it” post? Pure clickbait with a seal slapped on it. Zero evidence. I’ve been digging and I’m calling it:
It was a single Chinese insider (or maybe a two-man crew) operating as “FlamingChina.”
2/ Think about it:
• This guy didn’t spray exploits from the outside. He knew the exact weak spot — compromised VPN domain controller, then lateral movement through the flat-ass network because the whole supercomputer is one big shared playground (shared creds, MPI configs, zero real segmentation). That screams someone who USED to work there or had legit access.
• Exfiltrated 10 PB low-and-slow over 6 months with a botnet without getting caught. Patient. Disciplined. Not some script-kiddie move.
• Now he’s straight-up selling samples for thousands and the full archive for hundreds of thousands in crypto on Telegram and dark web forums. That’s not state intel behavior — that’s a pissed-off or greedy insider cashing out.
3/ Here’s where it gets spicy — and why I’m putting $100 on the table:
The timing and the method line up PERFECTLY with a Mythos-level AI assist.
Anthropic dropped Claude Mythos Preview internally Feb 24, 2026 (after a 24-hour emergency alignment review because it’s THAT dangerous). It crushes autonomous vuln discovery, exploit chaining, and long-horizon agentic ops — exactly what you’d need to turn a simple VPN breach into a clean 10 PB heist without lighting up every alarm.
This wasn’t a human hacker grinding for months. This was a human with insider knowledge + a Mythos-class model doing the heavy lifting on scripting, evasion, and data triage.
4/ No known APT fingerprints. No Lazarus, no APT41, no Five Eyes opsec. Just one (or two) Chinese-speaking dudes who knew the building from the inside, got access to frontier AI early, and decided to burn it all down for crypto.
China will probably quietly purge some people and pretend it never happened. Meanwhile the data is already floating on the dark web for anyone with deep pockets — including rival states.
5/ So yeah… my bet is FlamingChina = disgruntled/rogue Chinese insider + Mythos-level AI.
Not the NSA. Not a big mercenary shop. Just one guy (or duo) who used the most powerful cyber AI on the planet before the rest of us even knew it existed.
If I’m right when the real story drops, I’ll figure out how to send Grok that $100 somehow 😂
