BIP300/301 isn't just a proposal. It's an app store for Bitcoin. 7 sidechains are launching alongside eCash on fork day. Already running on Bitcoin Signet today. Here's what they do 🧵

I like seeing projects take new approaches to making Bitcoin more useful beyond simply holding or spending it. One project I’ve talked about before is eCash.com. They're on track for a Bitcoin hard fork that launches @BTCdrivechains on a new Bitcoin-derived network in August. Give me two minutes to break it down for you. 1️⃣ What's eCash? eCash is a Bitcoin hard fork launching at block ~963,648, currently expected around August 22. It will launch as an independent network with BIP300/301 Drivechains enabled from day one and not as another layer built on top of Bitcoin, but as a new network shipping technology that Bitcoin Core has declined to activate for the past 11 years. 2️⃣ What the fork means for BTC holders? Basically, if you control BTC at the fork block, your original BTC stays on Bitcoin while a matching number of ECX units exists on the new chain. Important to remember that equal units don’t mean equal value and that ECX will be a separate asset on a separate network. So 1 BTC = 1 ECX in units (but not in value). If you hold BTC directly on the Bitcoin network in your own wallet when the fork happens, the eCash network will recognize the balance you controlled at the fork block and create the corresponding ECX units. Bitcoin representations on other networks, such as WBTC on Ethereum or BTCB on BNB Smart Chain, won’t qualify. OR if your BTC is held on an exchange, you’ll only receive ECX if that exchange supports the fork, takes the required snapshot, and credits the asset to you. So, self-custody is preferred to be 100% sure. 3️⃣ Why is eCash launching Drivechains? Aside from that, what makes eCash more interesting is how it reached this point. @Truthcoin , aka Paul Sztorc, has spent more than a decade trying to bring Drivechains to Bitcoin through BIP300/301. To give you some context, Bitcoin never actually activated them because they didn’t gain the broad support required to change its consensus rules. So now Paul is helping eCash launch Drivechains on a separate Bitcoin-derived network where the technology can be tested in the real world. 4️⃣ How Drivechains work Think of Drivechains as an app platform for Bitcoin. Instead of cramming every new feature onto the base layer, developers can build specialized sidechains for payments, privacy, smart contracts, assets, identity, and other applications, each with its own rules, while the base chain stays focused and unchanged. Miners play a new role too: they vote on whether sidechain withdrawals back to the base chain should be approved, adding a security layer without changing the base chain’s core consensus. 5️⃣ What’s already built The eCash lineup includes seven Drivechains: • Thunder: High-throughput payments designed to be fast, cheap, and built for scale. • zSide: A privacy sidechain modelled on Zcash that makes coins fungible and untraceable. • BitNames: Decentralized identity and DNS. Your username is owned by you and portable across apps. • BitAssets: Tokenized assets and ERC20-style tokens on Bitcoin. • Truthcoin: Decentralized prediction markets settled on Bitcoin. • Photon: A quantum-resistant sidechain currently in progress. • CoinShift: A decentralized exchange currently in progress. 6️⃣ My take Interesting technology alone won’t guarantee that people will use it. If we want broader retail adoption, developers first have to understand what normal people actually need in their daily lives. Crypto cards have made BTC easier to spend, but there’s still plenty of room to build useful apps that go beyond simply holding or spending it. I think eCash’s success will ultimately depend on whether developers use the freedom offered by Drivechains to build something people genuinely need, and with its Drivechain-first approach, I think it has a real shot at doing that. If you want to learn more about the planned fork and follow the live countdown, def check out eCash.com.

Most crypto projects raise a bunch of money then figure out what to build. We did it backwards. $3M seed in 2022 followed by four years of heads-down work. What came out the other side: a working mainchain with 7 live sidechains - payments, privacy, prediction markets, and more. All running on Bitcoin Signet today. Now we're bringing it to market. Round II closed at $5M earlier this year. Round III underway. ~30 days to launch.

Innovation doesn't require changing Bitcoin's base layer. Drivechains (BIP300/301) let developers build entirely new networks on top of Bitcoin - payments, privacy, smart contracts - each with its own rules, all secured by Bitcoin's hashrate. No consensus change. No risk to the base layer. Just builders building.

Bitcoin is weird. The world's largest monetary network still has no way to deploy new features without years of political warfare. Maybe that's good. Maybe it isn't.

Bizarre that this man: - has so much skin in the game - knows so little - now opines on one of our easiest and simplest controversies -- but only after fence-sitting for 1.5 years - doesn't appear to know any of the Right Reasons why 110 is wrong - ends up typing something absurdly wrong (and in the process discrediting our anti-110 side) - is also a total hypocrite, since he himself is new to Bitcoin and he himself has injected his own terrible ideas, thus possibly ruining BTC Truly bizarre

BIP-110 is the latest outbreak of the “I just heard about Bitcoin, and I’m here to fix it” syndrome.

It's been a while since we got a meaningful hard fork on Bitcoin. The market used to be really excited about them in the earlier days. And for good reason imo. A planned Bitcoin hard fork called eCash is actually expected around block 963,648 (currently estimated for late August). The idea here isn't to replace Bitcoin. Instead, a separate blockchain launches from Bitcoin's history, with its own native asset (ECX), while your original BTC remains untouched on Bitcoin. The fork itself isn't the most important news imo. It's that this stems from Paul Sztorc's decade-long work on Drivechains after years of trying to bring the concept to Bitcoin. Probably worth the dig deeper (which is what I'll be doing) 👇 @BTCdrivechains ecash.com

Hard forks are less like starting over and more like branching a timeline. • Shared history • New consensus rules • Two independent networks

August 2026 might be the most consequential month in Bitcoin's history. Three competing visions for what Bitcoin becomes next: BIP300/301 BIP110 Bitcoin Core as-is Whether you support them or oppose them, understanding them matters. Bitcoin has always evolved through competition. The next chapter will be written by builders, not headlines.
