Self-assembling flying robots! 🥏 Researchers from University of Pennsylvania introduced ModQuad, a modular aerial robot system where individual quadrotors can dock with each other while flying and then operate as a single cooperative structure. Each unit is a quadrotor enclosed in a cuboid frame, designed so its flat faces can align and attach to other modules. This allows multiple robots to self-assemble into larger flying structures using their own bodies as building blocks. Once connected, the assembled structure can fly cooperatively, sharing control and stability across modules.
