Some reasons why cooking is overwhelming for many: -To cook each cuisine requires different base set of spices, staples, etc -Popular recipes often include obscure, expensive ingredients -Purchasing exact item amts often not possible -Utilizing rest of perishable food challenging

Sure average house size has gotten a little bigger, but many boomers are selling the same houses they bought for under $100k for like 600k-1mil and most of the time they more run down than they are upgraded. The land value itself accounts for a lot the increases not necessarily nicer builds.

I have great sympathy for the argument that things cost more these days. I have zero sympathy for the grown adult who thinks they’re too good to eat a sandwich or throw something in a crockpot. It’s the age of the Internet. If you don’t know how to cook, learn. You have money. What you don’t have is an excuse.

Healthy, high-quality food without poison should be easily available and cheap. But I guess we have to live worse than most of the world to satisfy the boomers obsession with pretending to be coal miners who lived in squalor their whole lives just to save for a house.

If it's the shitty bottom rung "up to 15% flavor solution" turkey then, yes, yes it is. And if people bought the real turkey from the deli counter that costs $15/lb now, you'd just say they're overspending. That turkey was $7/lb before Boomers ruined everything with COVID policy.

I think home-quality has increased substantially, and people are just generally unwilling to dip back to prior living-standards.

@BTRBT_ I don't think I've underestimated the quality of cheap grocery store turkey or overestimated the quality of some foreign prison conditions. Cheap US Walmart turkey is garbage. There's no brands that I know of that don't use chlorine in their turkey in the US that's cheap.

I think the main reason a lot of people—boomers and non, alike—are unsympathetic to the anti-sandwich crowd is because they seem to describe very mundane conditions in melodramatic terms.
