@professor_dave I'm sorry but this is completely untrue in Romania's case. It wasn't Gorbachev who freed Romania's people, it was the brave Romanians who stood up to the regime, many of whom paid for it with their lives. Gorbachev did nothing for them.

Seeing some complaining that if Gorbachev had done a better job he would have ensured a better freer Russia, without autocrats. But he freed the populations of East Germany, Poland, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, etc. Quite a legacy!
