That’s neither here nor there. I just think that’s an excellent film.

I'm gonna do Super Size Me but instead of McDonald's, I'm only going to eat Mr. Beast-licensed food products for a month.

The way taboos fade over time is something I think about a lot. Like how "damn" and "hell" were unsayable 100 years ago and are now commonly used. Everything eventually becomes irrelevant. People who haven't been born yet will think differently from us.
Wesley Yang@wesyang

The living memory of the Holocaust is fading away and with it the moral authority of the Jews. Thus we see efforts to recast the Jew as the new (but also the original) Nazi. (You see, Hitler knew, and was trying to prevent Gaza.) The living memory of the civil rights movement is also fading. The Supreme Court found that affirmative action violated the Equal Protection clause of the 14th Amendment in 2023. Donald Trump rescinded the executive order that created affirmative action in 2024. The Supreme Court struck down a key provision of the VRA responsible for the maintainence in power of a large contingent of the Congressional Black Caucus. And thus we see right-wing influencers attacking the sacred martyr of the movement, Martin Luther King, in ways that would have been unthinkable in prior decades. For good or ill, we can now see about the present what we had no trouble seeing about the past now that we stand at end of what seemed like a permanent regime of consensus reality and in a state of conflict in advance of the consolidation of a new one: it is constructed out of a consensus imposed by authoritative institutions of acculturation and socialization. The 1619 Project was an opening salvo in this struggle.

@tegviews2 Yeah but there's another thing about Buttigieg that makes him unappealing to black church-goers in Georgia...

@BWH85 Black voters vote for white guys all the time (including Trump). Only leftist blacks (and whites) discriminate against whites, like Warnock.

I don't think she's being facetious. I think she actually wants the mayor to do something about cream cheese offerings.

Was trying to remember how I knew the name Nithya Raman - her husband is a comedy writer who knows all the Ken Tremendous-adjacent former Twitter comedians who write sitcoms. They all loved her back in the day.

If you feel hopeless about politics, remember that local elections are where change begins. That's why I am so excited to support NITHYA RAMAN for LA city council. She is going to make LA the progressive city it can and should be. Please give to her here: nithyaforthecity.com

You always want your lefty reliever to walk the left-handed leadoff hitter with a 3-run lead in the 9th inning.
