i think to suggest the jump to this level at age 27ish or whatever was expected is probably disingenuous tbh. was a flawed top pair guy before that during flat cap, was a hard cap hit to justify

I like Caufield, but he finished the playoffs with 13 points in 19 GP (0.68 PTS/GP) and a 27% 5v5 goal share (or -10 rating for the old school).
Matthews & Nylander would get *killed* for a similar run. The reality distortion field used to compare these two teams is remarkable.

I think it’s significantly more likely that Montreal tops out as a consistently in-the-mix team (not a bad thing!) than the “about to run the league for the foreseeable future” team that we’re all being told to brace for

As for the Habs, they obviously aren’t *there* but Year 2 of their return to the playoffs saw them work some absolute magic against tougher opponents. Series was a shit-kicking but season was a success

Impressive run by a young Montreal Canadiens team. Learned what it takes to win a pair of 7-game series and how far there is to go to take down a top team like Carolina. Can't buy that kind of experience. Jeff Gorton & Kent Hughes have them well positioned for years to come.

They’re not fraudulent, they’re exhausted. 2/3 of their first line have played almost 110 games this year.
