I know that much of the "civilized" world is aware that Gaza's children and their families are being murdered in their tents by the gunfire of Israeli soldiers. I know the "civilized" world has witnessed the systematic slaughter and incineration of families in their shelters for months on end. But what I am certain the "civilized" world fails to grasp is that Gaza’s children have been deprived of an education for nearly three years. I was under the impression that this world championed the education of children as an inviolable right. How do you wake up every morning and take your children or grandchildren to school, yet never utter a word or lift a finger for the children of Gaza? How do you live with this fact? I assumed that even if these "civilized" nations were indifferent to children languishing in makeshift tents for over 870 days, they would find it unconscionable for infants to be preyed upon by rats. I am left questioning the moral framework this "civilized" world was raised on. What finally compels it to action, or what might finally deter it from bankrolling war crimes and crimes against humanity. This photo was taken this morning. The infant remains in critical condition.

I spent sixteen months reporting this story. It was deep, painful, and at times unbearable. It follows how surveillance tech is rewriting Gaza in real time — and what it’s doing to the people inside it. Read in @NYMag nymag.com/intelligencer/…

Whilst facing years on remand before trial, Heba has constantly feared for her family in Gaza who are living through a genocide. For one chant in support of Palestine whilst in prison, she's been held in solitary confinement before. She shouldn't be in prison.

BREAKING: Heba Muraisi becomes the third prisoner for Palestine to join the open ended hunger strike. Accused of damaging Israel's biggest weapons producer, Heba faces up to two years on remand before trial, far exceeding the six month pre-trial custody time limit.

During our successfully conducted visit today to Dr. Husam Abu Safiya, director of Kamal Adwan Hospital, who was arrested in December 2024 and remains incarcerated in Israel, a serious and alarming picture emerged. Since his arrest, Dr. Abu Safiya has lost approximately 25 kilograms. He suffers from serious scabies and heart problems but is not receiving any medical treatment. It became clear during the visit that Dr. Abu Safiya has not been brought before a judge, investigated, or given any information about the reason for his arrest since March.

If your first response to hearing that a child has spent nearly six months wasting away in an Israeli prison—cut off from his family, covered in scabies, down 26 pounds—is to ask “But who was he throwing rocks at?” please take a beat and reflect on how you ended up like this.
jasper nathaniel@infinite_jaz

I find it genuinely shocking that not a single major American outlet has covered 16-year-old Palestinian American Muhammad Zaher Ibrahim, held in Israeli military detention since Feb for "throwing rocks." His parents are begging for help, and they have been completely ignored.

@Keir_Starmer .... yet this statement (doing nothing as usual to stop the continuous murder, imprisonment, humiliation of Palestinians) frames it as both sides wanting to 'continue down the path of destruction'. EVERYBODY KNOWS YOU ARE LYING.

@Keir_Starmer It's not a humanitarian crisis but orchestrated starvation of Gaza by Israel. Hamas has said they would disarm, cede political power and release all the hostages if a sovereign Palestinian state is established (2 state solution which you've always claimed to want!)...

The Israeli Government’s decision to further escalate its offensive in Gaza is wrong, and we urge it to reconsider immediately. Every day the humanitarian crisis in Gaza worsens and hostages taken by Hamas are being held in appalling and inhuman conditions. We need a ceasefire now.

In a new and important article The Times has confirmed our scoop about the new US-leased plane flying spy missions over Gaza for Israel from RAF Akrotiri, the UK airbase on Cyprus. UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) sources told the paper that the government is paying a US company to undertake the spy flights. The flights are now flown by contractors, not UK military pilots, but the MoD would not disclose the length or cost of the contract. We discovered the new contractor pilot had forgotten to turn off his plane's transponder over Gaza on July 28, giving us the first glimpse of the spy flights' path over Gaza in 20 months of such missions. A UK military source told The Times it was a "schoolboy error" that would not have happened if the plane had been operated by RAF pilots. It is a very important article because it's first time distress from within the UK Ministry of Defence about its direct participation in the Gaza genocide has been voiced. The paper writes: "Patience with Israel inside the MoD appears to be running out...Military sources are baffled by the decision to privatise RAF intelligence-gathering tasks to help Israel, questioning why the government hasn’t pulled support after photographs emerged of starving Palestinians." A senior British military source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told the newspaper: “Instead of sending a message to Israel that we aren’t going to do surveillance for you, we are happy to hire an American company and pay for it.” The source added that the aircraft being used by the US company is "essentially the same aircraft [as Shadow R1], being [run] by a civilian company who are for hire. They have US security clearances and therefore allied nations who trust the US can hire them. This is about support for Israel." The Times added: "Britain’s military support for Israel is at odds with the Foreign Office position, which has been to call out the Israeli government for 'grotesque' treatment of Palestinians and threaten sanctions." A government source told the paper there would be "several hard drives" of intelligence gathered by British spy planes over Gaza. The Times article is here: thetimes.com/article/e010bd…

Incredible that Starmer is using recognition of Palestine as a stick to beat Israel, rather than the minimum of dignity Palestinians deserve. The moral value of this announcement is, by Starmer's own admission, zero.
Alex Wickham@alexwickham

Breaking: The UK will recognise the state of Palestine in September, before UNGA, unless the Israeli government takes substantive steps to end the situation in Gaza including agreeing a ceasefire
