The underlying contention here is twofold: that Japan was close to surrender and that US planners knew that Japan was close to surrender. The question at hand is not if dropping the bomb was "wrong" or "right", it was obviously immoral. The question is if it was perfidious.

If the war was about to end then why did the Soviets invade Manchuria? The assumption that Japan was at that point about to surrender is not even born out in the internal political divide between the various factions of the army and civilian branches of government.

I do generally believe that *most* Western "propaganda" about North Korea is true. Reason being that I go on the a Chinese internet a lot and there's a lot of people here who do business in NK or are Chinese diaspora
And their accounts of NK generally match up with defector ones

USSR wasn't going to stop any of that. Neoliberalism already happened when the USSR was around. Japan also surpassed the USSR economy. Sino-soviet split had divided communists. He's repeating russian nationalist talking points made by Putin.

@randomtwootera1 @feral_flora In the Russian Revolution they cracked down on the anarchists before any attacks on railways. This is just classic shifting of the timelines. Also the Bolsheviks arguably sparked the war in earnest.
