From NHL perspective, the league feels the Vegas response to date is consistent with the team’s existing contractual rights, as well as with established league policy. So, it remains very much up to the VGK if and when teams can talk to Cassidy while he's under contract.

The United Conservative Party put out a statement claiming a special committee had voted to recommend a referendum question for this October, offering Albertans a choice on whether to remain in Canada. But the release went out while the committee was still meeting and hadn’t actually finalized anything.

Wild scene at the Citizen Initiative Proposal Review Committee: UCP issued a press release announcing that the committee had approved a recommendation that government include a question on Alberta separation in October referendum. However, the committee was still debating the motion and had not yet voted

Another point to consider in the Vegas/Cassidy situation - the Golden Knights had to ask the Philadelphia Flyers for permission to talk to John Tortorella. The courtesy was granted and now Cassidy's replacement has VGK in the Western Conference final.
