Enjoyed presenting to the faculty and students of the Human Kinetics department at Visayas State University in the Philippines. I spoke on sports leadership and what we can learn from leadership in other vocations. Let me know if you'd like me to speak at your event.

@JawCoach @Baghurst Some of us are able to actually read results and see that they were DQd for rule 4.6.1. And even 4.6.2 (the actual rule, not your AI summary) has NO mention of celebrating before the line. Either way, you're wrong. Ignorance sucks...

This has been flying around social media this week. I wasn't there, but I've read content from those who were. My understanding of the rules is that runners are not permitted to celebrate prior to the finish line. The runner had already received a warning in his 300m race. The gesture he made before the finish line in this race was in reference to the team winning its fifth title in a row. He wasn't just raising his hand. I believe the team appealed the decision, which was rejected. These are facts, not opinions, but I'm curious what you all think, especially those of you in track and field.
Robert Griffin III@RGIII

A High School was ROBBED of a State Championship The Mallard Creek boys track and field team was disqualified for taunting because Ngannou Brown raised his hand before crossing the line to win the 4x400m relay. THIS ISN’T TAUNTING OR UNSPORSTMANLIKE

"Among the rules for the state meet, which was held May 13 to May 16 at the Marcus T. Johnson Track on the campus of North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro: All coaches and athletes are expected to show GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP. Competitors who engage in taunting, profanity, baton throwing, and/or refusal to follow the instructions of the meet officials will be disqualified from the event or possibly the meet. The use of profanity, taunting, “showboating” will not be tolerated and will result in disqualification per NCHSAA."

@Baghurst You've been informed incorrectly. There is no rule that runners can't celebrate prior to the finish line. In fact, the official guidance on the rule says that the exact celebration of raising your hand in the air as you cross the finish line is allowed.

What has changed in the NBA playoffs? "Since 2017, home teams are 14-15 (.483) in Game 7s (excluding the 2020 bubble). But before this span, home teams were 101-25 (.802) in Game 7s."

@Baghurst @slmandel They’re looking for a $50 million endowment. No word on whether they expect to get it.

The whole "save college sports" movement is rooted in the myth that NIL is going to force schools to cut Olympic sports. As Arkansas found out, like Stanford and others before them, these sports all have alumni who care deeply about those programs and stepped up to fund them.
Brandon Marcello@bmarcello

Arkansas is bringing back its men's and women's tennis programs after announcing they were being cut April 24. What a whirlwind. And a bad look.

We're conducting a study through the FSU Center for Athletic Coaching to determine whether and how coaches at all levels use AI in their coaching. If you're a coach, please take a few minutes to share whether you use AI and your thoughts on it. Thanks in advance! fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4O…

We've received almost 1,300 responses from Florida coaches to our survey of stipends and HB-731. If you're a Florida coach, we want your input! The more data, the greater the impact. If you haven't done so, please complete it here: fsu.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_d5…

Youth sports have normalized unhealthy drinks and snacks. Too often, young athletes consume more calories around practices and games than they expend. In a period of high childhood obesity, some athletes may gain weight through youth sport participation. Parents and coaches both contribute. Parents provide unhealthy snacks, and coaches allow them.
