The tendency of Americans in particular to always be doubters and to want to break from leadership at the first sign of trouble is one of the key differences between us and the historical German mindset. I'm very typically American in most ways but one way I am very German is in the belief in unwavering loyalty to leadership once you've declared yourself to be morally and spirituallyon the same side. No corporation, no government and certainly no military organization can function if everyone thinks it's okay to publicly criticize, doubt or even mock those in the position of ultimate responsibility as soon as you think they are doing something you don't like or you don't agree with. The German culture in WW1 & WW2, forged over centuries, is that anyone who does this is a defeatist and a muntineer, effectively spreading enemy propaganda. It's fine to have opinions about the war or to discuss various options or decisions, but try to do so always with an attitude of respect, and especially avoid enemy defeatist-traps online. This is a world war and all of us are participants. Those of us online, with social media accounts, are fighting in the English language the war of words and ideas. That doesn't mean you should disregard the truth, but it does mean you should generally present a united front and never mock, insult or disrespectfully question leaders who have a thousand times more responsibility and more experience than you do. I think it's good for people in "our thing" to practice this now, while the stakes are generally so very low for us over here. If things ever heat up to the point where the ability to stand strong and stay unified becomes more serious, then learning how to think more like Germans in this respect could be the difference between our victory and defeat.
