@thameswater Apologising with vague information and unlabelled photos on the website just leaves everyone frustrated. I understand that there are in fact two burst pipes, and this is why “the” pipe repair isn’t fixing the problem yet—the other one isn’t done. Why not just tell everyone?

Manuscript copyists & authors often sought protection from natural plants in preserving manuscripts against deterioration. The supplicatory formula read: ياكبيكج احفظ الورق = kabikaj is a plant. Copyists burnt it to use as protective incense. See example.

@bdaiwi_historia @MENALibAHS Might be a Ranunculus sp. better to say: Ranunculus asiaticus. Adam Gacek has a great paper abour Kabikaj in English. I wrote a paper in Turkish years ago.

South Asian Islamicate manuscripts will frequently have “yā kabīkaj” inscribed on their first page. Kabīkaj was the king of the cockroaches. It was hoped that, out of respect for their king, cockroaches would spare the book.

This lovely late 18th century French volumes on maths look unfinished to modern eyes. In fact, this is how books were often bought. Buy them in paper wraps like this and have them sent direct to your binders to be bound to fit in with all the others in your library.

@BainbridgeCons Oh fair…. We will check and report back. We’ve needed less since we used some of the collection as fuel if we are honest.

We’ve taken tough action for the remainder of the financial year. If your project is not - a vanity project - something the friends of the curator want to attend - something the Director wants to attend We will be cutting it. We know that’s the commercial programme. #Museums

@LeahWW @CarolineMcCaff @LondonMudlark @tedsandling However anyone can go on the foreshore in the permitted areas and just look—the rule is don't disturb (pick up, dig, take, etc.)—so you could just go walking around and looking, and take pictures of interesting things as a way of collecting.

Any suggestions for how best to go about Mudlarking in London - I know you need a licence but is it possible to arrange a small group or tour? Would be myself and several Masters students down from Edinburgh. Any ideas @LondonMudlark @tedsandling ?! Thanks 🙏
