@GucciFeline I used to hear them all the time at my old house and was sad when we moved and didn't hear them anymore. But a group of them has been visiting the area over the last year so every now and again I get to hear them 😍 Kookaburras and magpies are my favourites

I would describe my feelings reading this page of the paper as “mixed”. Fuck the port Phillip council, they better get ready for some opposition - and up the FKN Socialists in Schools (a union group within the Victorian Socialists Workers Caucus)! If you work in education I definitely recommend getting involved with the work they’re doing

@gomichild People who start any response with "just" ("just get a job", "just move" etc.) are desperately clinging to the illusion that they are in total control of their lives and thru sheer force of will can avoid disability, poverty, or misfortune

Let me share with you a "just get a job story". My friend has been diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder). He would LOVE to work. He has applied for an insane number of jobs. All said no. Some days he's ok, others not. It's random. They all say he's a risk.

@ArtistAffame poverty is framed as an issue of personal responsibility rather than a product of systemic failure, but it means those not in poverty do everything they can to avoid it - leaving little time/energy to challenge those systems

@ArtistAffame I think the reality is that no major govt will do anything substantial bc people in poverty serve a political purpose. Partly bc ppl in survival mode have less resources to challenge power, but partly bc it helps keep the rest of the population in line +

At this point in time people in poverty are being left behind by all 3

Chelsea Perkins murdered the man who raped her. She pled guilty and took full responsibility. She was given 22.5 years in prison. Jesse Mack Butler raped and strangled two children. One sustained such severe neck injuries she almost died. He got community service.

#TheWheelOfTime you know what bugs me even more? @PrimeVideo didn't bother to release the previous seasons on DVD which means that when they remove the show from their platform, in one, two years, because it isn't profitable to keep it up, there won't be any legal way to rewatch

@Hornsounderr Yep. There's whole fields of study on this. Part of what I research is how racism is embedded in everyday language, and how this contributes to racialised inequities. Watching the current discourse has been like watching my research come to life on the TL 😐

THIS THREAD. I did notice that for a *lot* of people, racism is only saying the N word or being straight up acting like some KKK member. It's, sadly, very easy to forget how deeply ingrained it is at every single level in our society. A racist person is not just the one who uses slurs, shouts the N word, threatens to kill POC etc. You can be racist without meaning to be and it can manifest in many ways.
