Enjoyed discussing @tnwildlife sponsored mallard research with @mgbrasher on the @DucksUnlimited podcast. Stay tuned for more #duck research and convos coming soon! @ABlakeBradshaw @cjhighwayman @cohenwildlab @BaknerNicholas

A research idea born in a duck blind matures into a $2 million cutting-edge study? Darn right, it did! And you can learn more about it on the latest episodes of the only podcast about all things waterfowl. Dr. @mgbrasher is joined by Tennessee Technological University's Dr. Abby Blake-Bradshaw and Dr. Nick Masto for their long-awaited discussion about the study we've all heard about—the wintering ecology of mallards in the Mid-South. Check out 'Ep. 582 – Studying Mallard Ducks in Western Tennessee' and 'Ep. 583 – Bumping Birds: What Are We Learning About Ducks, Sanctuary, and Hunters?' wherever you access podcasts. My brother and I defended our dissertations! I’ve accepted a postdoc at @universityofri and @BaknerNicholas at @tennesseetech. We couldn’t have done this without the support of our family, friends, and PhD committees. Proud of you Nick!

After the first two weeks post-hatch, turkey poults begin to behave like adults, including vocalizations. One of our field techs caught these poults calling while in the field. You can hear several vocalizations from the poults, including yelps, clucks and whines. 📷Kayli Newkirk

Wildlife Techniques students @UF make videos where they address a problem w/ how wildlifers conduct research. Have a minute? Please add a question to a video - this interaction w/ professionals is immensely helpful! Thank you! @UFWildlife @UF_IFAS youtube.com/playlist?list=…

New short communication in Food Webs by myself and @KevinRingelman. We used modified trail cameras to observe wood duck nests and found red-bellied woodpeckers depredate and consume eggs when nests are unguarded. authors.elsevier.com/a/1gtp48MrlBCx…

@abigailthiemkey My dad harvested this red fox in south central PA a couple weeks back with quills stuck in its nose. Area we are in is not known to have porcupines but guess there are a few around. Had to be painful though!

We have this one stream we’ve been trapping muskrats in Pennsylvania. The juvenile muskrats we’ve been catching have these growths on their body. This growth is definitely the largest we’ve seen. Any mammalogist out there have any insight on this?
