@Ball_InMyHand Very true. There's no reputational obligation to keep Essengue. They might view his ceiling as not worth the time and effort needed to get him there. The "tough love" coaching might just be a way to show him that developmental time is coming to an end. Performance matters more.

Tiago Splitter says Noa Essengue didn’t start the second half because he “wanted more from him.” Noted he had a couple early turnovers, that he wanted more ball handling to start the 3rd.

Sources: The Chicago Bulls will add Rex Kalamian, Jonah Herscu, and Blake Ahearn as assistant coaches. Kalamian was an assistant coach for the Bucks, Pistons, Kings, Clippers, Raptors, Thunder, Timberwolves, and Nuggets. Herscu was Portland’s G League head coach and assistant coach for the Blazers and Kings. Ahearn was a Grizzlies assistant coach and San Antonio’s G League head coach.

@jro_27 I think the other side of this, they CAN be quicker to be done with him. Obviously they aren't done with him yet, that'd be silly. But keeping in the back of our mind this isn't the regime that picked him. They don't NEED nor may feel invested to see him through struggles.

Splitter has expectations for him. That means Essengue matters. And Splitter is using this time to deliver that message to him. These aren't bad things.
Now we just have to see how Essengue responds.

@WilfredBergqvi1 Definitely fair. Granted at that time I mightve still had a shred of hope and cope if I was a staffer myself. But it became so abundantly clear how dysfunctional the previous regime was over time, I'll give whoever said that some grace lol assuming they had a reality check

It could take BG 4-5 years to clean up this mess. Thats why landing Caleb at 4 was so essential. But the most damning quote in the article was

Noa was our 11th pick man. Arturas lit draft picks on fire so unfortunately I'm sounding the alarm. He doesn't have any responsibility to look this bad and uncoordinated on O. How do you get benched in Summer league man? Y'all know how pissed Tiago had to be for that?

Final: Jazz 80, Bulls 63 Caleb came alive in the 4th, scored 19 on 17 shots, but left a ton of points on the table missing all 6 FTA. Had 8 rebs, 5 blks. Swain continues to struggle, 0/9 with 5 misses at the rim Noa fell out of the starting 5 in the 2nd half, had just 6 pts

@JSaltzmandoooo Yea I don't mind that. You know I'd say if I thought it was too early etc. But honestly I might be closer to cutting it with you than anything else. Would love if he proves me/us wrong ultimately

@Ball_InMyHand Imma go ahead and cut the chord with Noa.
Most of the thoughts and comments are about his skills and body type, and rightly so.
But what I notice most are his emotional reactions. He reacts by pouting and negative body language to every bad call, every turnover, etc.

I think we're jumping to conclusions.
I see Tiago as trying to light a fire under Noa in a low stakes Summer League game with a plan to build him back up in the next game. That's just a tool in a coach's toolbox.
Lmk when he does something like this to Noa during the season.

@JimiMorningstar I agree with all that for sure and yea it's been a minute. Would've loved if even I could tell he was processing the game quicker and his body wasn't allowing some things but he's legit had some dumb plays unfortunately. So yea def will need the Gleague year

Couple thoughts on Noa: he clearly has a length advantage but he doesn’t have a motor/muscle advantage which negates his size.
Needs to add 10-15 lbs à la Giannis
His passing isn’t awful-he see lanes and he plays actual basketball (screen,roll,etc). I do think he’ll need another year (great! We have time!) but do not expect him to be a contributor this year unfortunately.
Kid hasn’t played a competitive game since when? November?

@mrsiefert Yea the only way he could sorta be vindicated there is if Sellers returns jus way more value than any guy selected 38 or later otherwise that will look funny, it already does look funny.

@Ball_InMyHand I wish Bryson wouldn't have sold away his 2nd round picks. There's clearly a talent deficiency on the team, there were players available that could've helped at 38.
