Our youth were genuinely disturbed by issues of national importance. Many expected President Ruto, known for his resilience, to stand firm and refuse to budge. However, having known President Ruto for over 13 years, it’s clear that his decision to withdraw the Finance Bill was a strategic move made in good faith, not a capitulation. His decision to withdraw all clauses, as demanded by Gen Z, undermined the political opponents who aimed to use this generation to destabilize the country. By withdrawing the bill, Ruto addressed two issues strategically: 1) he responded to public demand, and 2) he exposed the political saboteurs. Now that it is clear who attempted to use the genuine concerns of our youth to destabilize the country, I am confident that the appropriate response will be forthcoming. Leading a country is not for the faint-hearted. The government must protect and respond to the genuine concerns of our youth while dealing very firmly with the coup planners. Kenya is a democratic country; the only option available to the coup planners is to vote as they wish in 2027 to advance their agenda.
