@mplearchipelago @Martyupnorth Did you read his post? He just explained to you why the cost of the feedstock (oil) is the biggest variable here. Basically everything else is a fixed cost.

Here is a precise breakdown of the $1.75/litre pump price for regular unleaded gasoline in Alberta (as of April 1st, 2026). When the price of il goes up, it directly impacts the feedstock (crude oil) and refining components. Most of the taxes are fixed at a rate (cents per litre), and stay the same. The GST collected by Ottawa definitely increases because it's calculated on a higher base. The poor retailer doesn't make a whole lot of profit on gasoline. In fact, they make more money on a bag a chips, than they do on a litre of gasoline.
