#MothersDay was always going to look a little different for Bani. 💚 After a tragic train accident separated her from her herd as a young calf, Bani was left without the one thing every baby elephant depends on most, her mother. For elephant calves, a mother is their safe place. The one who walks beside them, comforts them when they are afraid, guides them through the world, and never lets them feel alone. Bani lost that far too soon. But over time, in the middle of healing and learning to trust again, Bani found comfort in the familiar presence of her caregiver, Vijay. He was there for the tiny victories, the difficult days, the playful splashes in the pool, the muddy tantrums, and the endless demands for bananas. Somewhere between the slow walks, stolen treats, and quiet moments of reassurance, the two built a bond that feels less like routine and more like family. Now, Bani lights up when she sees him, follows him around with curiosity, and looks to him for the comfort she once lost.
