A neighborhood dispute during a routine day of yard work ended with a murder conviction and a sentence of 24 years to life in prison. Prosecutors said Theodore Block was cutting down a tree in his own yard when neighbor Cole Hornsby entered the property while armed and confronted him. Deputies responded to the scene and took Hornsby into custody. A jury later found Hornsby guilty of murder. During the trial, jurors also heard that Hornsby was legally prohibited from possessing a firearm because of his prior criminal record. The court sentenced Hornsby to 24 years to life in prison, meaning he must serve at least 24 years before becoming eligible to seek parole.
