As we approach the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States of America, few events in the history of the nation were as impactful spiritually as the First Great Awakening. With key figures such as George Whitefield, Jonathan Edwards, Gilbert Tennent, and John Wesley the stories of God's gracious power at work in the lives of these men are abounding. Joseph Tracy provides an essential look at the history, theology, and figures that undergird these stories making his book excellent for summer reading. I spoke ill of the @banneroftruth recently. I can't speak for anyone else, but I was personally guilty of "parroting the discourse" primarily for the sake of stirring up controversy. In other words, I sinned. My motives were impure. I know that I have God's forgiveness in Christ, and for his sake alone. And with his help, I repent, and I ask for y'all's forgiveness as well. This place is often stupid, and this fool is given to engaging in that stupidity. Christ have mercy on this miserable offender. "It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife, but every fool will be quarreling." — Proverbs 20:3 "The steadfast love of the LORD never ceases; his mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is your faithfulness." — Lamentations 3:22-23

In a day when the church is often focused on reinventing ministry and church practices, John Calvin teaches us that God uses faithful, persevering labour in prayer and Bible preaching as the building blocks for revival and maturity in the church. With sermons from the Old and New Testament you will be sure to be blessed by Calvin's clear expository preaching. Special pricing ends on April 16th. It is incorrect to say that we omitted to publish a whole volume of Dabney. Originally the intention was to publish Volumes 1 and 2—the more theological material. Our Volume 3 of his Discussions was a compilation from the original Volumes 3 and 4. Published 15 years later, this selection was made on the basis of what our then-editors deemed most edifying and relevant to our readership.

@BangerOfTruth @8v4n2hwgcm @1600sPaleocon @banneroftruth @RHB_Books The Pink example is no secret. They omitted from Sovereignty of God a chapter they considered hyper-Calvinist. Discussions was never presented as an exhaustive set of Dabney’s works. There is plenty of what you call spiciness in vol 3 as it is, for which they drew some flak.

It’s been fun to watch the cordial fight over Thomas Watson between @banneroftruth and @RHB_Books. It’s a shame both publishers have a habit of editing out content they don’t like from the puritans.

Some have asked what is the difference in content between the @RHB_Books Works of Watson and the Banner set. Watson's core works appear in both sets. We have taken advice that Jerusalem's Glory is likely not our Thomas Watson, and have omitted it. Apart from that, the difference in coverage is very slight indeed. On the basis of RHB's release yesterday of a detailed ToC, it seems to come down to this:

@Alex_DiPrima Hi Alex, this has been retypeset, with two new (or rather, newly discovered!) letters, and some additional photographs. Do listen in to the interview, though - Dr. Gordon's enthusiasm for the collection is evident throughout.

It also gave language to one of the more strange and concerning moments in my life. I experienced a sense of mental 'deadness.' Like I just couldn't think thoughts at all. Couldn't read. Felt useless spiritually and had no idea what was going on. And then I took a stroll..

Calvin was, first and foremost, a preacher—preaching customarily ten times in each fortnight—and his sermons not only moulded the citizens of Geneva and the many refugees who gathered in the capital of the Reformation, they were also read from Poland to Scotland. Because Calvin was ‘the first great modern preacher,’ this material is basic to the history of preaching. For most readers, however, the sermons will be read and prized for their sheer spiritual helpfulness.
