Grateful to PM @NarendraModi ji and President @realDonaldTrump for their visionary and decisive leadership, and strong commitment to strengthening India–U.S. ties.
This unlocks the power of two large democracies working together for the shared prosperity of their people. Both India and US are natural allies and our partnership will co-create technologies, co-develop solutions, and work together for peace, growth, and a brighter future for India and US.
This agreement unlocks unprecedented opportunities for farmers, MSMEs, entrepreneurs, and skilled workers to Make in India for the world, Design in India for the world, and Innovate in India for the world. It will help India get technology from the US.
It is not just a trade deal - it is a historic turning point that will reshape India–U.S. relations and accelerate our journey towards Viksit Bharat 2047. 🇮🇳🇺🇸

A new chapter begins today in the India–UK economic partnership! The signing of the Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) reflects our shared commitment to enhancing trade, driving inclusive growth and creating opportunities for farmers, women, youth, MSMEs, and professionals.

Congratulations to Prime Minister @NarendraModi ji, UK Prime Minister @Keir_Starmer, and the people of India & the United Kingdom on the signing of the landmark India-UK Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA).
Duty-free access for about 99% of Indian exports unlocks nearly $23 billion in opportunities for labour-intensive sectors, marking a new era for inclusive and gender-equitable growth.
Artisans, weavers, and daily-wage labourers employed in several MSMEs across textiles, leather, footwear, gems & jewellery, toys, and marine products will step into a new phase of prosperity. From village looms to tech labs, this FTA marks a historic leap for women through improved access to finance and deeper integration into global value chains.
This agreement is a big win for farmers, ensuring duty-free exports on nearly 95% of agricultural products, while fisherfolk gain from Zero Duty on 99% of marine exports, boosting their incomes. The deal will also have a transformative impact on manufacturing-intensive sectors like engineering goods, electronics, pharma, chemicals, food processing, and plastics. This agreement will also provide Indian consumers high quality goods at competitive prices.
India’s talent in IT, services, and education will gain from easier access to the UK’s high-value markets. The three-year exemption from social security contributions in UK as part of the Double Contribution Convention is a significant breakthrough for Indian workers and their employers. Chefs, yoga instructors, musicians & business visitors will benefit, advancing our vision to be a global talent hub.
The #IndiaUKFTA will open doors to UK customers, investors, and innovation hubs for our Startups, helping them expand their global footprint. This deal is a win-win for ‘Make In India’ and ‘Vocal For Local’, driving job creation, empowering communities, and reinforcing India’s strategic trade leadership. It ushers in a new era of economic cooperation, reinvigorating our bilateral trade ties. 🇮🇳🤝🇬🇧
Here's a wrap of some of the major highlights from the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in the past few weeks:
🔸Those in the semiconductor & electronics component manufacturing space have a lot to cheer about. SEZ reforms have been notified to promote investments and manufacturing. The area required for setting up a factory has been reduced to 10 hectares from the earlier 50 hectares. Moreover, manufacturers have also been allowed to supply domestically after payment of applicable duties.
🔸 Good news for leather exporters, especially those in the MSME sector. Port restrictions on export of finished, wet blue, and EI tanned leather have been removed, which means they can be exported from any port or Inland Container Depots across the country. Also, mandatory testing and certifications have been removed.
🔸India is cementing its position as the preferred global investment destination with FDI inflow of $81.04 Bn in FY 2024-25, growing by 14% over 2023-24. Manufacturing FDI has grown by 18% during the same period, reaching $19.04 Bn, in a big boost to 'Make In India'
🔸All-women Farmers Producer Company in Odisha gets to send their produce of the famous Amrapali mangoes to Italy. This is a big boost for our horticulture exports and a huge opportunity for our farmers to increase their income
🔸The first commercial consignment of J&K premium cherries heads to Saudi Arabia and the UAE. Farmers now have a huge market open for them to sell their produce and profit.

Delighted to speak with my friend PM @Keir_Starmer. In a historic milestone, India and the UK have successfully concluded an ambitious and mutually beneficial Free Trade Agreement, along with a Double Contribution Convention. These landmark agreements will further deepen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, and catalyse trade, investment, growth, job creation, and innovation in both our economies. I look forward to welcoming PM Starmer to India soon.
Had a forward looking discussion with @USTradeRep Jamieson Greer on a mutually beneficial Bilateral Trade Agreement.
Our approach will be guided by ‘India First’, ‘Viksit Bharat’ and our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
While I don’t agree with many of his comments, and several of his suggestions regarding Kashmir and Bengal are outright unthinkable today, I do believe it provides an interpretation of events which will enrich our understanding of our own past.
While we may discount the political overtones pervasive throughout this book, he was a leader in opposition of the government at the time of writing after all, the book does provide a wealth of anecdotes and a fresh perspective of looking at the events.
This book, written in 1959 by Dr. RML, a political stalwart in his own right, is one such narrative lost in time.
Dr. Lohia ruthlessly critiques the role played by Gandhi, Nehru, Patel, Jinnah, Azad etc. in the freedom struggle, partition and the subsequent events which unfolded

The Shallows is a remarkable and thought provoking book. It has forced me to reconsider my opinion about importance, or at least balance, of technology in education and in daily life.

The advent of digital technology has reduced the importance of human memory. No one tries to remember facts anymore. Instead, we all try to remember place on the web, or the keywords we will need to input in a search engine.
