@Mr_Husky1 What a treasure! A very unique way to display her
granny squares.

My grandmother taught every woman in our family how to crochet. She'd sit in her green armchair with a cup of tea that was always cold because she forgot to drink it, hands moving so fast you couldn't follow the hook. She made blankets for every baby born in our family for sixty years, afghans so beautiful people thought they came from fancy stores.
She passed away in March and I inherited three garbage bags full of granny squares she never finished. Hundreds of them, all different colors and patterns, stuffed in her closet like she was saving them for something. My mom wanted to donate them but I couldn't let go. These were the last things her hands ever made.
I didn't know what to do with them until I saw someone post a crochet Christmas tree in a shop. Made entirely from granny squares stitched together over a frame. I sat on my bedroom floor surrounded by grandma's squares and cried for an hour, then I started sorting them by color.
It took me three weeks. Some nights I stayed up until 2am just connecting squares, and every single one felt like holding her hand again. The yellow star on top I made myself, first thing I ever crocheted, ugly and uneven but it's mine. When I finished and stepped back I just stood there staring because somehow all those random squares she made over the years came together into something whole.
My family is coming for Christmas this year, first time we're all together since the funeral. My mom called when I sent her the photo and couldn't even speak, just crying on the other end. My aunt wants me to make one for her using the squares she saved too. I actually found a crafter through a shop who's helping me source matching vintage colors so I can fill in the gaps.
Grandma never got to see what her squares became. But I think somehow she knew they'd find their purpose. They always do. 🎄💛

Google Street View recently updated its Sandusky imagery for the first time in 6+ years. We made a StoryMap comparing the 2025 views with older images (mostly 2015–16) to show how the city has changed over the past decade.
