The Nutt authors were absolutely correct in highlighting the "lack of hard evidence" available come 2013. This paucity of relevant data was also true in Aug 2015 (PHE Report), and Feb 2016 (RCP Report). Yet, the 95% safer guestimate promoted as fact. ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/core/lw/2.0/ht…

@ColinMendelsohn @RJM10 You know that John Newton confirmed that the PHE estimate is based on the Nutt study: he stated that under oath in Australia, yes? Half of the signatories of the RCP report are the same PHE authors: are you seriously suggesting that they would have proposed anything else!?

@RJM10 Sadly, this paper (& vaping) has been championed noisily by much of the medical & anti-tob establishment in the UK. Odd to think of those people being lumped into the same category as tobacco industry affiliates. It’s the basis of mainstream medical policy in the UK. Sadly. ^John
