Any fellow history teachers on here subscribe to History Today/BBC History or alike? Tempted by a subscription but not sure which is better.

@Kaetror @hb_history I've known some team leaders/examiners in the past to be retired teachers. Not sure if this is still a thing tbh. I also don't know many schools who would be happy to release staff for days. Exam marking is treated like some clandestine operation...

@BarklamMr @hb_history Isn't that always the case? For the SQA all markers, team leaders, and even the subject marking team within the SQA, are all classroom teachers. I work with someone who's a National 5 subject lead; they just get seconded out a handful of days throughout the year.

Experiences of exam marking this year continue to be beyond awful. Middle and senior leaders will need to brace themselves for a record number of reviews of marking, because the standard is going to be shocking

I swear, since the birth of my son, I have never been 100% healthy. Always a cough, cold, sniffle, chest infection, norovirus or some other disease usually reserved for sickly Victorian children awaiting me. Is this normal?!

GCSE History in a nutshell

I look at brilliant strategies for teaching well and then the size of the GCSE spec I teach and despair sometimes. They aren't compatible. Predominantly GCSE success is about the motivation of students to do lots of independent work.

Things I've learned being a first time dad whilst being a teacher . A small thread🧵

I'm sure I have missed things off here. It's a tough slog. I would argue even more so in our profession. Life admin is hard enough in teaching without throwing baby into the mix. But, honestly, being a dad is the best thing in the world.

7. You will have a consistent cold and snuffle for the first 6 months. Can't wait for him to start nursery and catch every disease under the sun!
