A reasonable take I heard (from a millennial) is that wokeness happened because millennials looked around and saw that they had no transcendent belief system to guide them and give their lives meaning and so they just turned up the volume on Boomer anti racism because that was on hand. I think that’s right. It doesn’t explain everything but it’s definitely it’s definitely psychology true in an important way.

In 2005, a nursing home in the US got a six-month-old kitten named Oscar as a therapy cat. The staff soon noticed something unusual about him.
Oscar often liked to be by himself, but sometimes he would go and lie next to one of the residents. Strangely, the resident he chose would often pass away within a few hours.
At first, the workers didn't think it was important, but after it happened 20 times, they started to think Oscar knew when someone was going to die. So, they began to call the resident's family if they saw Oscar with them.
Some people think Oscar could sense certain smells from dying cells, and that's why he went to comfort residents who were alone.
There was even a time when the staff thought one resident was going to die, but Oscar stayed with a different, healthier-looking person, who then died first.
Oscar lived until 2022 and was right about more than 100 deaths during his life.

I understand it intimately. I’m 69 and drove uber. In Oct 2025 I was hit head on by a drunk driver from India. I still haven’t recovered. I’m broke now. 100% his fault. Uber insurance is horrible. Here is my Dashcam video.

Maybe only 20% of Iran’s population supports the government but they are organized and very dedicated in no small part because they receive all sorts of perks and privileges and payments.
I wonder if something similar is at work in states like California and Illinois where hundreds of thousands of public employees have fake make-work jobs and millions of others are supported by vast webs of corruption.
Whatever the specifics it becomes very discouraging for normal, productive people when what they produce is parasitized by a huge class of layabouts and the politically connected.

@HumanityChad I have a similar story. Met my biological mother, when I was 30. I never blamed her. And she was able to heal through our meeting. We've had a great relationship ever since.

She was trafficked at 12, pregnant at 14, and chose adoption so her baby could have a better life. After 20 years apart, they finally met again. 👏
