These people actually think it’s a good thing for society to demand every responsibility of men while taking away every right associated with those duties. They genuinely think it’s desirable and righteous for men to have the responsibilities of headship while having none of the benefits, or even the actual headship. You have to treat women as protectorates, but you also aren’t allowed to have or even desire any of the associated authority. You have to treat all women as your wards, but you don’t get to have any authority over them, let alone to seek a wife. Having the responsibility to protect women, while intentionally being given no authority over them, necessarily puts men in a position of surrender, in which their only option — they can’t actually enact any protections — is to simply accept failures retroactively, and to justify or dismiss them. That’s the goal, of course; to make men subjects to the misdeeds and failures of women, but paint it as a moral failing on the man’s part that those misdeeds or failures occurred, so that old, ressentiful men can justify their hatred of the younger men and feel righteous in claiming they deserve to suffer those very misdeeds and failures. This is often caused by the desire to negate one’s own failure in raising a terrible daughter, but of course more than anything it comes from a hatred and an envy of young men who still have their lives in front of them. 90% of wifeguys are genuinely just angry and ressentiful that young men have futures open and undetermined, and they don’t.
