It’s hard to begin to unpack how bad this is. There is a CA prop 65 lead level (0.5mcg/serving) that was set arbitrarily 1,000x lower than the “no detectable impact” level for humans. This was for drinking water done in 1986. The EPA and FDA have, in-writing, said to California, this is a infeasible limit to set. But… California. For example, rice, broccoli, and carrots all trip this level. LMNT tests are BELOW this level. Below what your daily leafy salad and nuts give you in lead. Lead is naturally occurring on our planet. The lead that comes off of pipes, for example (the big issue for drinking water when this legislation was passed) is highly bioavailable (it just rusted off and has an open charge). Lead that has been in the earth for millennia is highly un-available - often 5% or less bioavailability. This means, we have a 20,000x safety margin, and this test shows we still come in under the “infeasible” standard set in California. In fact, this legislation was only meant for drinking water. It was called the “safe drinking water act” … but recently folks started applying it to packaged foods more broadly, not understanding how to read the test results differently and not factoring in the type of lead and the wide range in bioavailability. —- 93% is a completely fabricated concept. They should be sending us a medal for our test results and going after root vegetables and grains. But really, both are fine. We don’t have a lead toxicity problem in this country anymore since we got rid of lead pipes, lead paint, lead in pencils (graphite now), or lead in gasoline. The government tested millions of citizens blood levels. This was a public health initiative that worked. We have plenty to worry about in health - lead frankly isn’t a going concern. I’ve reviewed this with them. They don’t care. Clicks sell. And they’re happy boasting about app growth while new mothers are crying because they think they’ve poisoned their unborn child. It’s egregious. They just did this for protein too, got called on it, and deleted it.
