“DEI training made me do it” is the new “we were afraid of being called racist”.
The last time British police used that excuse, it was Rotherham. 1,400 children. They said political correctness stopped them acting. Then it turned out officers hadn't just failed to act.
Some were complicit. Some abused victims themselves. The 'afraid of racism' line wasn't an explanation. It was a cover story for something far worse.
Now Hampshire Police officers are running the same playbook. An eighteen-year-old said “I've been stabbed, I can't breathe”. They handcuffed him and let him die. And their explanation is that DEI training made them feel pressured.
Every time police catastrophically fail in this country, an ideological excuse appears to absorb the blame. Never the officers. Never the misconduct. Never the broken chain of command. Always an abstract bogeyman: political correctness, unconscious bias training, diversity culture.
And every time, the public buys it, the officers most likely walk, and nobody asks the only question that matters:
What exactly are you covering for this time?
