2/2 Once it freed up, I refitted the belt and started up. An initial whine disappeared immediately and it’s running like a clock. Thanks for all the messages & advice- despite my love of cars, I’m definitely not mechanically minded. Next on the list is the non working heater fan!

In other news(!), I went at the Punto again today. Having removed the belt the alternator was seized and the car started and ran fine. Liberal applications of oil to the innards and turning it over with a 25mm socket and it seems to have freed up. 1/2

Deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Brian Patterson, I just found one of his iconic @Real_RallyNews bullitens in the van the other day and thought, they are missed on events and it was great to find it and read years later. My thoughts are with Liz & the Patterson family.

Time for a radical rethink of the calendar to save the WRC season? There will be top class rallies happening before the end of the year - Zlin, Ypres, Azores, Rome and others. Drop the support champs and work out how to incorporate WRC into events that are happening. Thoughts pls
