Been a busy summer - and they’re saying the pipeline is filled to the brim - finding it hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel #myanalystisworkinglate

@BigJohn043 This is really cutting edge stuff, John - as always, you’re way ahead of the pack with this analysis

@BigJohn043 “A leading company in the X space” is a great way to save myself a sleepless night. I also like to highlight the “product differentiation” because that’s arbitrary and you probably can’t wrap your head around the technology anyway.
English

Then lots of the points that get written down aren't very thoughtful.
"A leading company in the X space"
Is it really leading? If so then tell me that the company has X% market share and is Y times bigger than the next largest competitor. This leading stuff is just banker nonsense that all real buyers ignore immediately.
"Superior customer value proposition" Is it really? If so, give me data. Describe exactly what is superior about it.
"Strong experienced management team" This is in almost every one. Having this key selling point is not going to convince anyone that you really have a good management team. So why include it?
In short, drop the silly banker superlatives and give me actual data and facts.

@paulswaney3 In my experience, the SAM is much more insightful.
In all honesty, pontificating over a ‘TAM’ that will only ever see 40-60% terminal penetration is a futile, and rather intellectually dishonest conversation.
Let me guess, you work in industrials…

@BigJohn043 Consultants are a valuable asset in the commercial due diligence phase. The plain truth is that big swinging PE dbags like myself don’t have the time nor the patience to cold call customers to develop an advantaged market assessment @BigJohn043
English

FWIW, I don't think this is true at all.
I do think consultants can help get the right answer. And they generally know how to think about strategic questions in a way that most operating executives don't.
But more importantly the process brings everyone along and gets the team aligned on a direction. This is very important....

Everyone knows this but it's worth restating from time to time. Why do Executives hire consultants? 1. Risk shifting: - Management decisions become "expert-backed" - Managers shift blame when initiatives fail but take credit for bringing consultants in when the succeed It's the old adage "nobody ever got fired for hiring mckinsey" Another way to put it is "as an executive, would you pay Mckinsey $500k to cover your ass?" I sure would

@donlemon Don’t let the door hit you on the way out, Don. You’re over the hill and yesterday’s news. Haven’t heard you say a word about M&A being back under Trump, can you even spell “mergers and acquisitions” …
