Barry, you won’t believe me anyway but a lithium battery sitting there is mostly DC. It does not radiate like a phone mast or microwave transmitter. The bigger EMF readings in an EV usually come from current flowing through cables and motors, especially under acceleration, regen braking, or charging. Even then, cars are shielded, regulated, and tested. The panic version goes. Battery = electricity Electricity = EMF EMF = cancer Therefore EV = cancer car That is not good reasoning. By that logic, your fridge, alternator, phone charger, electric blanket, induction hob, laptop, and every power cable in the wall are all time bombs.

And electric cars not green in the spotless way they are sold to the public. They are industrial machines built from mined lithium, nickel, cobalt, copper, aluminium, steel, plastics, glass, paint, electronics, rare earth magnets, heavy battery packs, global shipping and huge factories. Before an EV ever turns a wheel, it already carries a carbon debt especially from the battery. Then there’s the reality of charging. An EV is only as clean as the electricity grid feeding it. In the UK, the case is stronger because coal has almost disappeared and wind, gas, nuclear and imports now make up most of the electricity mix. In the US, it depends heavily on the state some grids are much cleaner, others still rely heavily on gas and coal. So no, EVs are not zero-emission. They are not magic. They do not erase mining, manufacturing, tyre wear, road wear, battery production or power generation. But the fairer argument is this over a full lifetime, most EVs usually do produce lower emissions than petrol or diesel cars, especially as electricity grids get cleaner. The lie is not that EVs can be cleaner. The lie is pretending they are clean. They are not green.They are less dirty and that is a very different claim.
