Thankful for opportunities and lessons learned along the way. “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

There are a lot of coaches who are very good at training kids. They know their drills. They understand programming. They can run a great gym session. But training isn't coaching. My old friend Bill Sweetenham puts it perfectly: "Coaching is neck up. Training is neck down." Training is the science — sets, reps, drills, programs. Coaching is the art — inspiration, connection, belief. Making someone feel like anything is possible. Most coaches are good at neck down. The great ones master neck up. Which one are you spending more time on? Check out waynegoldsmith.substack.com

Jack Kochanowicz- 97-99 🔥(LA Angels) Last bullpen before he reports to AZ, a big off-season highlighted by some delivery and arsenal changes. 1. More Upright Posture 2. Higher Slot 3. Loading over the mid foot vs Toes 4. Rotating and finishing thru the catcher vs. Yanking across High slot giving him more arsenal options and allowing 4S to play + Sinker to have better angle. Getting to sweeper more/easier with -3VB -13H 83-85. Hell of a job @JackKochanowicz . Show it off #Develop @Jared_Tims @TaylorBlakeWard @TalkinHalos

Curt Cignetti with a masterclass on consistency and standards. "Every play has a life and history of its own...Not affected by success. Not affected by failure. On to the next play. Never satisfied. Playing to a standard, not the circumstances of the game." Every moment is another rep in honoring your standard. Stay anchored to your standard and your consistency becomes your separator. 📹: AFCA

@DiamondHeels You’ll love it. Had our pitchers face themselves as well. Made them understand how hard it is to actually hit.

This feels like a good moment to re-introduce myself. For the past decade, I’ve worked inside the world of high-performance sport, pressure-testing the frameworks and systems I teach today with athletes, coaches, and leaders at every level. Most recently, I spent seven years leading mental performance and coach development initiatives with the Arizona Diamondbacks. A few weeks ago, I made a major career pivot. I stepped away from my full-time role because I felt a growing pull to serve professional and collegiate sport coaches more directly. I wanted the freedom to support coaches 1:1 and to create the kind of partnership that helps you win more and live better (not just professionally, but personally). As part of this transition, I’m opening my calendar for free discovery calls throughout December (link in the comments). I have 3 openings for new clients in 2026. I’d love to connect with any coach looking for clarity, a thought partner, or a way to build sustainable systems around the demands of coaching and for those they lead. And if I’m not the right guide, I’ll help you find one who is. If 1:1 coaching isn’t on your radar yet, you can still learn alongside me in a couple of ways: 1. Winning With Words email newsletter (ranked Top 10% on Beehiiv): I share stories, frameworks, and tools you can use with your team the same day you read them. 2. The Threshold Lab podcast (ranked Top 10% globally): The show includes short-form episodes built to help you teach mindset, leadership, and performance principles in real time. It also features guest conversations with elite coaches and leaders across domains. If you’re still reading this, I'd love to talk, collaborate, or stay connected as this next chapter unfolds. My DM's are open and the link below can be used to schedule time with me. I'm looking forward to exploring how I can best serve you. With gratitude, ZB

@reidouse Completely agree. Develop the relationship deep enough to be able to hold them accountable. Your job is to tell them what they need to hear not what they want to hear.

The assistant coach who thinks their job is to be “the players’ friend” becomes the biggest problem on the staff. Be supportive, not enabling.

My Hall of Fame college baseball coach is better described as a leader of men than a baseball coach Every day he'd start practice or pre-game with a story because he knew it was his job to get his team in the best mindset to execute as possible He knew every athlete's name on campus He knew every parent's name on the team He was a great salesman who recruited great recruiters He was a great lobbyist with university administrators He could paint a vision that everyone could align behind, draft a plan to achieve it and motivate everyone to do their part along the way His skillset wouldn't just work in college baseball, it would work in small businesses, Fortune 500 companies, local, state and national politics Rather than getting my MBA, I got something far more valuable. 4 years studying under Tim Corbin

Kyle Hendricks walks away from the game knowing he had a very good career, but above that, I hope he knows he was one of the best people the game has seen; pure class and a true gentleman who many should aspire to be, congrats on retirement, Professor
