The tax would affect only homes that are worth more than $5 million and are not being used as the primary residence of the owner.
It would raise about $500 million annually to help close the city's budget gap.
Seems like a good idea.

Fewer of them means fewer projects get built, which reduces supply further and pushes prices up, not down.

Hey, we’ve got ultra-wealthy people paying property taxes on multimillion-dollar vacation homes, living here maybe 3 weeks a year, and dumping a ton of money into the local economy while barely using any government services.
So overall, they put way more into the system than they take out.
Let’s tax them extra so they stop.
