At 18, some people were already investing in stocks.
The only “stock” I was familiar with was stockfish.
Recently, I’ve been spending more time listening to financial podcasts. I paused the books for a while because hearing real people share their journeys gives a different kind of connection.
One thing keeps standing out in many of these success stories.
Financial literacy started at home.
You’ll hear them say things like:
“My dad taught me how to invest.”
“My mom opened a stock account for me when I was 14.”
Before they even turned 18, they already understood investing, saving, and how money works.
Meanwhile, many of us grew up without those conversations.
At 18, I didn’t know what stocks were.
The only “stock” I was familiar with was stockfish.
And that difference matters.
It shows how powerful early financial education can be. It can shape the way someone sees money, opportunities, and long-term wealth.
But here’s the important part I've taken from all these...
If our parents missed it, we don’t have to miss it too.
We can make the intentional decision to learn.
To become financially literate.
And someday pass that knowledge to the next generation.
For me, it’s a conscious decision now.
To keep learning.
To keep improving.
To keep getting better financially.
Because the truth is simple...
It’s never too late to understand money.
