Last year, BCI and partners launched a new wildlife refuge named Ika (“bat” in the local Emberá language) in Bogotá, Colombia to protect the Endangered Antioquian sac-winged bat (𝘚𝘢𝘤𝘤𝘰𝘱𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘺𝘹 𝘢𝘯𝘵𝘪𝘰𝘲𝘶𝘦𝘯𝘴𝘪𝘴).

Inspired by models used to predict the number of marine mammals that can be killed by the fishing industry without causing extinction, BCI scientists presents a novel tool to prevent bat extinctions and make wind energy facilities more sustainable.
