@dogwoodblooms Happy birthday to your mum! I too am 61 and had my son at 17. Your mum sounds like me and you sound wonderful - just like my son. Love to you ❤️

I was born to two seventeen-year-olds.
And Lord, did they make some mistakes! More than I can count.
But here’s the truth nobody likes to say out loud — they got a whole lot right, too.
My mama came from nothing. A shotgun shack in New Hanover County. An outhouse out back. And not in the 1870s — the 1970s.
Let that sink in.
She didn’t inherit comfort. She didn’t inherit connections. She inherited grit.
And she worked a man’s job before folks clapped for women doing that sort of thing. She worked until her hands ached and her back burned, and she clawed her way out of circumstances that would’ve buried most people.
She got me out of trailer parks and into one of the most sought-after neighborhoods in Wilmington. Not because somebody handed her a key — but because she earned it.
She showed me the world. Washington, D.C. Fireworks over the monuments. Disney magic. Hawaiian sunsets that didn’t feel real.
No safety net.
No backup plan.
Just her.
Now imagine being a daughter watching all of that — judging every move, measuring every decision — and realizing one day that the woman you critiqued was quietly building an empire out of dust.
I don’t talk about my mama much.
But that woman?
She’s the real queen.
Happy 61st birthday to the woman who taught me that respect is earned, hard work is non-negotiable, and love isn’t something you say.
It’s something you do. 💯

@DuncanLindsay He is a great actor but it's so funny when his West Midlands accent slips out now and again!

Aaron Thiara is doing such a fantastic job with Ravi's mental health story, I'd argue some of his best work on the show so far #EastEnders

Thank you @BBCR1 for such an important conversation around suicide prevention.
If you or anyone you know has been affected by this conversation, details of organisations offering information are available at BBC Action Line.

Lady in blue, "Will student loans be the next misselling scandal?" #BBCQT
Oli Dugmore, "My three year course, £9,000 a year for the tuition, on top of that a maintenance loan, I left uni with £37,500 of debt"
"From the day I was charged RPI interest"
"Since I went to uni in 2012, the amount of interest I have accrued is £32,000"
"Was it missold to me when I was told it would cost me £9,000 a year? Yes"
"On top of that its a regressive system"
"If you're wealthy enough to pay the fees up front, you don't get charged interest - if you're rich enough you don't pay the same as me"
"The government changed the terms of the agreement, I call that loan sharking"
Fiona Bruce, "How else would you pay for university?"
Oli Dugmore, "How did you guys pay for it?"
"The state paid for it, didn't they?"
Fiona Bruce, "They did"
Oli Dugmore, "Good enough for you, good enough for me?"

@AnnieSugden75 @dominicbrunt And brilliantly written, produced and directed I thought!! (Apart from the inconsistencies with Dylan's leg but we can overlook him being able to crouch down!)
English

What a cracker of an episode! @dominicbrunt you are an absolute legend, and such amazing actor.
Left with such an eerie feeling yet... OMG! That end! 🥺💔😭😬
The three of you ( plus Joe as a dead Ray) were brilliant.👏

Quote: 'Did you know when I was 16, the government made an agreement with me, that if I paid National Insurance every week, they would give me a pension when I was 60
I kept my end of the deal and am still paying in!!
On the 5th and 6th of June, the UK Government may be made to give back the right to retire at 60 to all those women who worked and paid their National Insurance.
Currently their pension payout is delayed until 66 or 67 depending on date of birth.
We all know that the pension age for women born in the sixties has been raised. Did you know a campaign called ‘Back to 60 Movement’ has won the right to a Judicial Review and is taking the DWP to the High Court? On the 5th and 6th June they will attempt to get women justice over non consultation in raising the pensionable age to 66 and above.
Michael Mansfield QC will lead the case and the argument for the movement. However, there does not appear to be any media coverage regarding this significant event. That is why we’re raising the awareness now. Let's hope for justice rightly deserved.
There appears to be a media blackout on this issue, which suggests that the government have put a block on the media reporting it. So let’s use social media for what it’s good at - share the hell out of this. Come on ladies - this is worth a great deal to you!'

“Can I bring my baby to the interview?”
The message came in at 11 PM:
“Hi, I have an interview with you tomorrow at 2 PM. My childcare fell through. Can I bring my 8-month-old? I understand if you need to reschedule.”
Old me would have rescheduled.
Unprofessional. Distraction. Red flag.
New me replied:
“Absolutely. See you tomorrow.”
She showed up with her baby on her hip.
She apologized three times before even sitting down.
Ten minutes in, the baby started crying.
She tried to soothe him while answering questions.
She apologized again.
I stopped the interview and said:
“Hey. You’re managing a fussy baby, answering complex questions, and staying calm under pressure. That’s literally the job. Handling chaos while staying professional. You’re already proving you can do it.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
We hired her.
She’s been with us for a year now.
The most reliable team member we have.
Why?
Because when you’re used to handling a screaming infant at 3 AM and still showing up to work the next day, workplace stress feels like nothing.
Working parents, especially mothers, are some of the most organized, efficient, and resilient people you’ll ever hire.
Yet we lose them because our hiring processes are built for people with zero caregiving responsibilities.
If your interview process can’t accommodate a parent facing a childcare issue, you’re not filtering for professionalism.
You’re filtering for privilege.

@EvriDeliveryCom can you find out why your courier apparently delivers parcels to the very unsafe place at my address despite knowing the safe place - and why they then disappear within minutes? This has happened twice recently. His name is Richard.
