Moores Tells UK Lawmakers: Commodities Are Back, But the World Has Changed @BatteryBritain is launched. 🇬🇧 The global commodities sector is entering a new era driven by energy transition demand, geopolitical turbulence, and a shifting global manufacturing landscape, Benchmark Chairman Simon Moores told members of the House of Lords on Thursday. “Commodities and mining are back,” Moores said. “But the world isn’t what it once was.” Speaking at the launch of Battery Britain, the founder of Benchmark Mineral Intelligence highlighted how materials such as lithium, graphite, and copper are now firmly at the heart of global diplomacy and conflict. Lithium is truly a future facing mineral / chemical / commodity (?). Rio Tinto are now properly locked in. Rio’s lithium move is a major deal at the bottom of the market - can’t remember many times we’ve said that. It’s been a move 10 years in the making. It marks 18 years since Rio found ‘krypotonite’ in Serbia (Jadarite). A new mineral discovery in 2007 at the start of my career - one we are now familiar with. This about as good a deal as it gets for Rio Tinto but the hard work starts now. Expected more M&A from Rio over time - they don’t do things to be 3rd, 4th or 5th.
