“Just the coolest person I know,” is how Aimee Morita describes her 13-year-old nephew who is on the Autism spectrum. In his earlier years, Aimee’s nephew struggled to connect with peers. He was interested in Rube Goldberg machines, world geography, and magnet fishing while his classmates were caught up in video games and Pokémon cards. Fast forward to today, and Aimee’s nephew has just started high school. He has a tight-knit group of friends, volunteers regularly in his community, and is thriving thanks to the support of his family and the ever-improving resources to help them better understand how he sees the world.
