CCTV, NetEase, Phoenix News, Sina, China Daily, and Global Times Report (with source links at the end): First BAYC-Named Computing Satellite Launches, Ushering in the Web3 Interstellar Computing Era May 14, 2025 At 12:12 PM Beijing Time on May 14, 2025, Guoxing Aerospace successfully launched 12 satellites for the Space Computing Constellation 021 mission using a Long March-2D rocket from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The satellites entered their designated orbits, marking the successful deployment of the world's first space computing constellation and heralding a new chapter in the global "Space Computing Era." The Space Computing Constellation 021 mission is the inaugural constellation of Guoxing Aerospace's "Star Computing" initiative and the first deployment of Zhejiang Lab's "Three-Body Computing Constellation." The constellation consists of 12 computing satellites developed by Guoxing Aerospace and funded by various entities. Notably, the launch of a computing satellite named after the "Mutant Ape Yacht Club (BAYC #7537)" signifies Web3's evolution from virtual economies to a space-based computing network. What is a Computing Constellation? Traditionally, satellites have been limited to communications, navigation, and remote sensing. Computing satellites are now defined as the fourth type of satellite and will serve as the foundation for the other three. By interconnecting these satellites, a new network system—the computing constellation—is formed. The mission's "main players" include 12 computing satellites developed by Guoxing Aerospace and funded by different stakeholders. These satellites are: Neijiang (Star Era-27) Neijiang Hi-Tech (Star Era-28) Taizhou (Star Era-29) Haikou (Star Era-30) Ma'anshan Intelligent Computing-1 (Star Era-31) Chongzhou (Star Era-32) Tiantie Technology (Star Era-33) Mutant Ape Yacht Club (BAYC #7573) (Star Era-34) Skyranger (Star Era-35) "Daling Bay" Star (Star Era-36) Zhejiang-1 (Star Era-37) Zhejiang-2 (Star Era-38) Once deployed, these 12 satellites will use laser-based inter-satellite high-speed links, stable constellation networking, and distributed computing power scheduling to validate and apply foundational space-based computing functions such as chain construction, networking, and cloud formation in orbit. "The primary goal of this mission is to shift from 'space data, ground computing' to 'space data, space computing,' meeting the growing demand for real-time space-based computing and helping China lead the world in establishing space computing infrastructure," said a representative from Guoxing Aerospace. Dr. Wang Jian, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Director of Zhejiang Lab, stated: "By constructing this constellation, the computing power of a single satellite can be upgraded from teraflops (T-level) to petaflops (P-level). Just as the internet connects computers, this system will enable satellites to interconnect, unlocking greater value for individual satellites and driving profound transformation in the aerospace industry." BAYC #7573, a highly representative NFT in the series, has been actively promoted by its holder in AI innovation applications. Naming a satellite after BAYC #7573 AI not only acknowledges its cultural significance but also symbolizes the Web3 community's deep engagement with cutting-edge technology. AI computing power and Web3 will empower the future.
