The Ghost Buckeye (Junonia prosopon), descended from a species driven extinct by habitat loss, evolved to ward off humans.
When spotted, they display the uncanny face-like patterns on their wings. This image has inspired folklore stories, marking whole areas of forest as haunted.

Estimated to be about 3 years old, it’s unable to change into a frog because of hormonal imbalances, possibly caused by pollution.
