@ct_girlie I never said the book wasn’t comedic or didn’t have jokes though. The move just had more jokes and bits than the novel did shifting the tone. Still a really well made movie and good adaptation. Just think the tone could’ve been dialed back a bit more

@BayukMatt ryland is constantly making quippy jokes in the book, he's a primary school science teacher like that's his whole schtick to be playful and say fake curse words

i'm kinda obsessed with all these "film critic" reviews i'm seeing talking about how there's too much humor or it's too unserious at times like that's such an embarrassing way to announce you didn't read the book

@ct_girlie listened to the audiobook last month! It’s got some humor and pop culture but even then tonally it’s not as quippy as th film. Grace meeting Rocky in the book was like “OH crap an actual alien?! Whoa this is cool” to Gosling making quippy jokes and dancing
