Year 2 conducted an experiment to see how the sea causes erosion. The sandcastles were our cliffs, then we built our own flood defence out of rocks. The children observed the water being deflected around the corner of their flood defence and onto the next part of the ‘cliff’.
Year 2 have been spotting physical & human features of our locality. We talked about the impact of the sand level rising up towards the sea wall & saw how humans can change the landscape in action. Super timing for our visit!
Huge congratulations to one of our Y4 children who entered a national competition in First News and won a Xoots Scooter for every child in her class! We kept the prizes a secret from everyone - so much excitement! Scoot safely, Year 4!
Table-top Maths - Y1 exploring repeated addition. Super focus and concentration everyone, well done! We used our table-tops so our thinking and investigating could be a ‘big’ as we need it to be (and yes, of course we talk about why we’re using our tables as dry-wipe boards!).
Year 1 enjoyed using their senses to detect signs of autumn at Manor Gardens. They even created some nature portraits using all of their autumn treasures.
Y5 have been expanding the range of notes they are confident in playing on our school brass set. They are looking forward to trying out new instruments from the set soon.
More from Day 3 on residential. More new skills & team building - fencing, archery and Segway. A couple of ‘before and after’ photos - feeling proud of our children! All great fun, but just look at the smiles when we’re washing up!!
Living life in all its fullness - having a super time on Residential this week. This morning the children were in the sea and on the beach. Team building, learning new skills and developing friendships. Everyone’s enjoying themselves! (Loving the staff bobble hats!)
Last year’s School Council have been running the elections Children signed up to our Electoral Roll, Candidates campaigned, Election Officers ran the election in our Polling Station and Returns Officers have counted the votes. Tomorrow, the newly elected Reps are announced!
Our One Big Beacon Family are deeply saddened to hear the news of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. We send King Charles III, the late Queen’s family, her friends and her admirers around the world our deepest sympathy. Such an amazing woman.
Year 1 had fun exploring capacity in maths. We carried out various investigations to see much water or sand different containers could hold. We practised using the correct vocabulary to describe capacity during our group discussions. The water also helped us to cool off !
