"Shutting the door on migrants coming here isn't going to look good on the UK" As MPs set to vote on controversial new laws that will overhaul the whole immigration system, @catherine5news speaks to @sabir_zazai, a former refugee now helping those arriving in Britain get settled

@doolsy21 @sophielouisecc General accusations that people of a certain group (numbering 10,000s) are all potential sexual predators are not proven by such examples

@sophielouisecc "All people from a group we don't like are potential sexual predators" is such a lazy, age-old trope, and just racist really...says a lot about the quality of your 'political commentary' 🥱

@ayeshahazarika It's fairly obvious he's referring to those on the ground who directly committed it - those suggesting otherwise are either doing so in bad faith or lack basic common sense

Is there anything more tedious in this world than reading a World Bank report ?

@thebigbogg What's the solution, short of wholescale structural change to the labour market? A more punitive sanction, or a stronger mechanism in the first place?

@BeadsworthJack Yes, the protective award factored in as a cost of doing business.

The P&O scandal doubtless also represents a ploy to de-unionise the workforce through the use of non-union agency workers. If so, this is an egregious violation of freedom of association. This episode provides a textbook demonstration of the results of forty years of deregulation

What a surprise that the Home Office is including small boat arrivals in its irregular migration statistics, despite 98% claiming asylum...one can only wonder why they want to elide asylum with irregular migration

@AlasdairMack66 I'm genuinely so ashamed Richard Ekins ever taught me. Even as undergrads he had a reputation for being smug and dismissive, brushing away alternative views without any explanation or reasoning

Missed the polling where a key working class concern was the absence of summary executions in the street

@DanielJHannan You can't seriously be that misinformed about the academic profession given how much you and your cronies bang on about it

Having demanded that all teaching be online and that campuses be closed, college lecturers are now striking over pay and pensions. What did they expect to happen when the rents dried up?

@gracabi For the second part, the interplay between labour law and immigration law is highly relevant and interesting as far as excluding migrant groups from labour protections goes 'Migrants at work' (Freedland and Costello) is an exceptional book on this topic
