Something I will never understand about the Midwest (so if you get it, please 'splain it to me) is that no actually good convenience store chain (like a Wawa, Turkey Hill, Sheetz, etc.) has emerged. These plains should be the most fertile grounds for this genre!

@rwidome Wow, this is actually shocking information. You also don't just look like a camper, you look like and AVID camper (i.e. multi-day camping in the most remote places).

I’m sort of embarrassed that I’ve never in my life been camping. The worst part is I must seem like someone who goes camping because everyone always asks me questions about camping.

Segregation doubled the odds of some Black children dying in U.S. cities 100 years ago. New research by @BeahboutIT and @jdavidhacker612 shows structural racism in the 1900s harmed Black health in ways still being felt today. Me for @NewsfromScience science.org/content/articl…

We started this paper 4(!) years ago and I asked every MPC/LCC seminar speaker I could for feedback and comments. Still in awe of how generous people were willing to be with their time. And of course huge thanks to @jdavidhacker612 who has really championed this work!

This work is #poweredbyIPUMS and would not have been possible without an enormous amount of support from @minnpop's Population Studies training program. I'm incredibly proud of this work and so happy to see it out in the world!

In our new historical demography paper, @jdavidhacker612 and I examine the impact of racial residential segregation on child mortality using the 1900&1910 census. We show that even prior to the creation of Jim Crows, and HOLC maps, structural racism has impacted health. @minnpop
